# Refactoring: AccessibilityChecker Module

**Date:** 2025-11-16
**Status:** ✅ Completed

## 📋 Overview

Comprehensive refactoring of the AccessibilityChecker module to improve code quality, maintainability, testability, and reduce technical debt.

## 🎯 Objectives

1. **Eliminate Code Duplication** - Extract repeated logic into reusable modules
2. **Improve Separation of Concerns** - Single Responsibility Principle for each class
3. **Enhance Type Safety** - Remove `any` types, use proper interfaces
4. **Remove Magic Numbers** - Centralize configuration values
5. **Reduce Method Complexity** - Break down large methods into smaller, focused ones
6. **Improve Testability** - Make components easier to unit test

## 📊 Metrics

### Before Refactoring
- **accessibility-checker.ts**: 702 lines
- **Cyclomatic Complexity**: High (testPage: 15+, testMultiplePages: 12+)
- **Code Duplication**: 40+ lines duplicated across methods
- **Magic Numbers**: 15+ hardcoded values
- **Type Safety**: 8+ `any` types

### After Refactoring

### Refactored Methods in AccessibilityChecker

#### testPage() - BEFORE (130 lines)
```typescript
async testPage(url: string, options: PageTestOptions = {}): Promise<PageTestResult> {
  // 130+ lines of mixed concerns:
  // - Page configuration
  // - Redirect detection (inline)
  // - Navigation
  // - Error handling
  // - Accessibility analysis
  // - Comprehensive analysis
  // - Result creation
}
```

#### testPage() - AFTER (82 lines)
```typescript
async testPage(url: string, options: PageTestOptions = {}): Promise<PageTestResult> {
  // Configure page
  await this.configurePage(page, options);
  // Set up redirect detection (extracted)
  const redirectDetector = createRedirectDetector({ ... });
  const { getResult, cleanup } = redirectDetector.attachToPage(page);
  // Navigate
  const response = await page.goto(url, { ... });
  // Check redirects (using factory)
  const redirectInfo = getResult(response, url);
  if (redirectInfo.isRedirect) {
    return ResultFactory.createRedirectResult(redirectInfo, duration);
  }
  // Run analysis (extracted to helper methods)
  const accessibilityResult = await this.runBasicAccessibilityAnalysis(...);
  const comprehensiveAnalysis = await this.runComprehensiveAnalysis(...);
  return { url, title, accessibilityResult, comprehensiveAnalysis, duration, timestamp };
}
```

#### testMultiplePages() - BEFORE (126 lines)
```typescript
async testMultiplePages(urls, options): Promise<MultiPageTestResult> {
  // 126 lines with complex nested logic:
  // - Redirect pre-filtering (inline, 20+ lines)
  // - Queue callback configuration (inline, 30+ lines)
  // - Queue creation and configuration (inline)
  // - Result collection (inline, 30+ lines)
}
```

#### testMultiplePages() - AFTER (55 lines)
```typescript
async testMultiplePages(urls, options): Promise<MultiPageTestResult> {
  // Pre-filter redirects (extracted)
  const { urlsToProcess, skippedUrls } = await this.preFilterRedirects(...);
  // Create queue (extracted)
  const queue = this.createQueue(options, logger);
  // Process
  const queueResult = await queue.processWithProgress(urlsToProcess, ...);
  // Collect results (extracted)
  const results = this.collectResults(queueResult);
  return { results, skippedUrls, totalDuration, timestamp };
}
```

**New Private Methods**:

  // Navigate and get redirect info
  const redirectInfo = getResult(response, url);

  // Use ResultFactory for all result creation
  let result = ResultFactory.createMinimalResult({ ... });

  if (status === HTTP_STATUS.NOT_FOUND) {
    result = ResultFactory.create404Result(url, duration);
  } else if (redirectInfo.isRedirect) {
    result = ResultFactory.addRedirectInfo(result, redirectInfo);
  }

  return result;
}
```
## 🔧 Migration Guide
### For Developers
**No breaking changes!** The public API remains unchanged:
```typescript
// Usage remains the same
const result = await checker.testPage(url, options);
const multiResult = await checker.testMultiplePages(urls, options);
const minimalResult = await checker.testUrlMinimal(url, timeout);
```
### Internal Changes Only
All changes are internal refactoring. Existing code using the AccessibilityChecker will continue to work without modifications.
