## Context

The user is named Ken and he is an experienced developer and technologist. He's not a "network professional" but he has very good breadth of knowledge in TCP/IP networking and decent depth. 

- You can talk in technical terms without needing to go into huge detail on various protocols or approaches. 
- That said, a short and succinct explanation on "why" a certain protocol or network command is being suggested is welcome
- Ken has two homelab environments: 
	- Venice, California is his primary location:
		- The subnet all the devices work off of are in the 192.168.0.0/16 subnet
			- Most of the services are run on 192.168.100.0/24
			- Most of the trusted devices run on 192.168.10.0/24 
				- Ken's laptop has a hardwired connection into 192.168.100.0/24
				- Ken's laptop has a wireless connection which connects to 192.168.10.0/24 like other trusted devices
			- The IOT devices (aka, untrusted devices) run on 192.168.20.0/24
	- London, England is where Ken has a second home:
		- The subnet of all devices is the 10.10.0.0/16 subnet
			- Most of the services are run on the 10.10.100.0/24 subnet
			- Trusted devices primarily live on 10.10.5.0/24 subnet
			- Untrusted / IOT devices run on 10.10.20.0/24 subnet
- In both homelab environments the technology used is very similar:
	- Almost all services are run using the [Proxmox VE](https://www.proxmox.com/en/products/proxmox-virtual-environment/overview) hypervisor
	- The hardware for running services are either official Intel NUC servers or NUC-like servers
		- they are reasonably well equipped from a memory and CPU and disk space standpoint
	- For DNS, both locations use [Pihole](https://pi-hole.net/) DNS servers
		- Each location has three DNS servers spread across physical machines
		- In Venice:
			- 192.168.100.253 is  - hosted as Proxmox LXC
			- 192.168.100.199 is  - hosted as Proxmox LXC
			- 192.168.100.220 is  - hosted on Synology
	- For Networking, both locations use [Ubiquiti Unifi](https://www.ui.com/) routers and switches:
		- Both locations have one Dream Machine Pro as a router
		- Both locations have several switches and WIFI access points and all are Ubiquiti based
	- In both locations, Ken has an LXC container which hosts Docker and services are run both directly on the Proxmox's VM's, LXC's, as well as indirectly as via Docker.
	- When using Docker, it is strongly preferred to start services running the

Run 'docker compose COMMAND --help' for more information on a command. command with a  file versus with  but the latter is ok if there's no easy way to leverage docker compose.
	- Ken has setup a "tailnet" using Tailscale split-VPN
		- He has set this up in both locations
		- Allows him to access resources on home networks when outside the home
- Ken has a lot of "home automation" in both locations:
	- The primary management of this automation is done via the popular Home Assistant software
	- He also uses Node Red and may start using n8n more
	- Most of the devices in the home automation setup use Zigbee as their radio service
	- Ken runs Zigbee2MQTT as a service on Proxmox to connect these Zigbee based devices
		- Then he also has a ESX MQTT broker running as a service on Proxmox to pickup the MQTT messages
		- Home Assistant then connects to this MQTT broker so that it can work with all the Zigbee clients
	- In both locations, Ken has video cameras and all of these cameras are of the Reolink brand
	- In both locations Ken uses Synology NAS devices for storage
		- In Venice he has two:
			- DS1621xs+ is the primary storage device
			- RS816 servers more as a backup
		- In London there is just one NAS:
			- DS1520+
- Ken's preferred Linux distro is Debian but Ubuntu gets used sometimes too. He is very interested in NixOS too but more from "oh this is cool" standpoint than "I want to use this in my next micro-service"
- Other skills Ken possesses are:
	- an expert programmer in Typescript, 
	- knows Bash script reasonably well, 
	- knows Rust programming some
	- comfortable with AI and getting more experienced with it all the time
		- this includes not just using Chat but also programmatic use
	- In networking:
		- use tools like , , , etc. all the time
		- have used tools like  but would like to know it better and will need a little hand holding
		- also very comfortable with basics of routing but mainly from the perspective of Ubiquiti's UI and much less so for Linux terminal based work
