# kodiak-mcp

**Verifiable fact-checking for agents.** An MCP server that lets an agent check a factual claim *before* relying on it — and get back a verdict, a calibrated confidence, cited sources, and a tamper-evident certificate anyone can verify. Built so a pipeline can't silently ship confabulated facts.

## Install

Add to your MCP client config (Claude Code, Copilot, etc.):

```json
{
  "mcpServers": {
    "kodiak": {
      "command": "npx",
      "args": ["kodiak-mcp"],
      "env": { "KODIAK_API_KEY": "your-key" }
    }
  }
}
```

Get an API key at **https://azurecarbon.com**.

## Tools

- **`kodiak_check_claim`** — verify one factual claim. Args: `claim` (required), `depth` (1–5, default 3). Depth 1–3 are synchronous and return the certificate directly. Depth 4–5 return a `job_id` immediately and run in the background — poll with `kodiak_check_status` (this keeps long forensic checks from being killed by MCP client tool timeouts). Returns verdict (supported / false / mixed / unsupported), confidence (0–100), citations, sub-claim breakdown, `certificate_id`, and a `verify_url`. Costs a few cents of credit per call.
- **`kodiak_check_status`** — poll a depth-4-or-5 background check. Args: `job_id`. Returns `{ status: "queued" | "running" | "completed" | "failed", ... }` with the full certificate when done, or an error + auto-refund note when failed. Free.
- **`kodiak_verify_certificate`** — recompute a certificate's hash chain to confirm the verdict, sources, and issue time are exactly as certified. Args: `certificate_id`. No key or credits required.
- **`kodiak_credits`** — check your credit balance and current per-depth pricing.

### Coming next

- **`kodiak_check_document`** — verify a whole document, not one claim at a time. Runs Kodiak's counter-argument survival kernel over every check-worthy assertion and returns a document-level defect report + per-claim breakdown. This is the *"verify this before I act on it"* workflow. In beta at the API layer; MCP exposure lands with the next release.

## Why it's different

Every certificate is hash-chained and externally anchored (Buoy + OpenTimestamps/Bitcoin), so a verdict's provenance is **provable after the fact, not merely asserted**. Verify any certificate independently at `https://azurecarbon.com/verify/{certificate_id}` — including ones you didn't produce.
