Ben Nevis is the highest mountain in the British Isles. Standing at 1,344 metres (4,409 ft) above sea level, it is located at the western end of the Grampian Mountains in the Lochaber area of the Scottish Highlands, close to the town of Fort William. Ben Nevis is all that remains of a Devonian volcano that met a cataclysmic end in the Carboniferous period around 350 million years ago. Evidence near the summit shows light coloured granite (which had cooled in subterranean chambers several kilometres beneath the surface) lies among dark basaltic lavas (that only form on the surface). Golden Cap is a hill and cliff situated on the English Channel coast between Bridport and Charmouth in Dorset, England. The cliffs are the highest point on the south coast of Great Britain. The name derives from the distinctive outcropping of golden greensand rock present at the very top of the cliff.

The hill is owned by the National Trust and forms part of the Jurassic Coast, a World Heritage Site. (Wikipedia)
<Snippet maxLines="4">
 'The Shannon Pot, in Co. #Cavan is one of the most famous sites of the Marble Arch Caves Global #Geopark. This spring rising is traditionally regarded as the source of the River Shannon, the longest river in Ireland.

The pot itself is a large pool, 16 m in diameter, which has been dived to 9 m depth below which it becomes impassable. The water is sourced from many sinks in the #Cuilcagh uplands to the east, and largely travels underground in the Carboniferous Dartry Limestone Formation. The spring is particularly dramatic after heavy rain when the surface doming is very impressive.

Although a site of geological significance, what makes the Shannon Pot so special is the link that it has with Irish mythology. According to legend, the pot is named after Sionnan, who was the granddaughter of Manannán mac Lir, the god of the sea. She came to this spot to eat the Salmon of Knowledge that lived in the pool. The sight of Sionnan angered the Salmon who caused the waters of the pool to spring up and overwhelm her. She was drawn down into the pool and its water began to flow over the land, forming the River Shannon.' From Marble Arch Caves Global Geopark on Facebook

The Stiperstones is a distinctive hill in the county of Shropshire, England. It is a quartzite ridge formed some 480 million years ago.
